Featured Choreographer- Tracy Anderson

All of the production and choreography students are working very hard to put the pieces together for the show. The good news is that everything seems to be pulling together almost on its own. It helps that there are many talented students working together this year. One of the many is Tracy Anderson, who is our featured choreographer!

What are you working on in choreography class at the moment?
I am working on a piece that plays with the idea of women selling the physical attributes to attract a partner. The piece covers the stages of yearning, enticing, luring and manipulating to feel desired.

This year's showcase is site-specific. What does that mean for you?
To create a piece that is site-specific means that I am using a very specific space that is dominating the choreography by its architecture, textures, lighting and sound reflection. It defines the piece and brings specific structure to it.

Tell us about a choreographer you admire.
Choreography that I admire utilizes dancers at a professional level mixed with non-dancers. I also prefer pieces that use a wide range of ages and body shapes to create depth.

How do you approach choreography? (or how did you approach your piece in the showcase?)
I am approaching this piece from the influence of my past experiences in dating after the age of 45 and the influences of what I have seen women go through to attract a partner.

Why should people come to the show?
I think the show will be a celebration for ACC's new campus at Highland Mall that mixes music, movement, and plays into several intriguing locations throughout the building. Anyone who enjoys dance, music, and has an interest in ACC or the memories of Highland Mall should attend.

What advice do you have for someone interested in studying dance?
I think someone ha an interest in something they should jump adventurously towards that passion. ACC offers a safe and supportive route to explore dance, choreography, and movement. I highly recommend ACC and Darla Johnson for an individual's first class in the subject of dance.
